Background to the Pupil Premium Strategy

At Warter CE Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background. The Pupil Premium is additional government funding allocated to schools to help close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. This funding supports children who are eligible for free school meals (FSM), those who have been looked after continuously for more than six months, children whose parents are serving in the armed forces, and pupils who have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (the Ever 6 FSM measure).

The purpose of the Pupil Premium is to provide targeted support that addresses the specific challenges faced by disadvantaged pupils, enabling them to achieve their full potential. As a school, we are accountable for how we use this funding and regularly publish our Pupil Premium Strategy to ensure transparency and demonstrate the impact of our interventions.

Our Principles

  • We provide high-quality teaching and learning opportunities tailored to meet the needs of all pupils, including those who are disadvantaged.
  • We ensure that provision for socially disadvantaged pupils is carefully planned, regularly reviewed, and effectively addresses individual needs.
  • We recognise that not all pupils eligible for free school meals are socially disadvantaged, and similarly, some disadvantaged pupils may not be eligible for FSM.
  • We allocate Pupil Premium funding based on a thorough needs analysis, identifying priority pupils, groups, and areas where the funding can have the greatest impact.
  • Our approach is inclusive and flexible, allowing us to support any pupil or group identified as socially disadvantaged to ensure equity of opportunity.

Provision

Our Pupil Premium funding is used to provide targeted support that accelerates progress and helps pupils to meet or exceed age-related expectations, particularly in literacy and mathematics. This includes:

  • Enhanced teaching support within classrooms, focusing on closing gaps in basic skills.
  • Small group interventions led by experienced teachers or teaching assistants to address specific learning needs.
  • One-to-one support for pupils requiring personalised assistance.
  • Additional learning opportunities through trained learning mentors, teaching assistants, or specialist external providers.
  • Resources and materials designed to raise standards, especially in reading and mathematics.
  • Support for able disadvantaged pupils to achieve age-related expectations by the end of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

All interventions and resources are regularly evaluated to ensure they are effective and provide the best possible outcomes for our pupils.
