As parents of two boys at Warter C E Primary School, myself and my wife have been delighted at the progress they have made both academically and in terms of confidence.

Now, as a school Governor I feel privileged to be a part of the day to day life of this outstanding school, and am excited to be able to continue and build upon what has already been achieved.

In my working life, I am a Chartered Accountant and having held senior finance roles in both the private and public sectors, I am now a partner in a firm of accountants based in Pocklington.

In my spare time I am an avid mountain biker and as a family we spend most weekends mountain biking our way around North Yorkshire.

Like many parents through the Covid-pandemic I was forced to reflect much more on the importance of early years learning and positive schooling experiences than I might otherwise have done. As a consequence, I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to contribute to the future development of Warter Primary School as Parent Governor.

Having lived in East Yorkshsire all of my life I have a great appreciation and commitment to the local community and actively participate with the development of various sports clubs, including coaching football to the Juniors section at Pocklington Town FC.

My professional and personal interests are also related to all things sport. I work as an independent consultant and advisory board member to globally recognised organisations and federations in the sports industry, having previously held senior leadership roles with Opta, DAZN and Perform Group plc.

I retired four years ago, after working as the teacher in charge of Behaviour Support for the East Riding, and  as the Curriculum Project Manager for Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning.  Since then I have developed  my  passion for walking, gardening and developing my artistic skills  (definitely a work in progress!).

I recently decided I would like to offer some mentoring and support to children who would benefit from some 1:1 attention at Warter school, after a year of unprecedented disrupted learning for children across the country.

I was delighted to be invited to be a Governor and to be able to provide my support to the school’s ongoing development, as my daughter benefitted so much from her education at the school some twenty years ago.

I have lived in Nunburnholme for the last 13 years, I have also been the treasurer for St James PCC since March 2013 and ring bells at the church.

Most of my working life, has been spent as an administrator but I also worked in Germany for an 18 month period as a Driving Instructor teaching forces personnel and their families to drive. This role developed my one to one communication skills and my ability to adapt to unusual situations, always useful in a primary school environment!

Having left my last job, I decided to volunteer at my son Ewan’s school, Warter CE Primary, and enjoyed the experience so much that I undertook an STLS level 2 course. I took the opportunity that my redundancy had offered and changed to a more fulfilling career with new challenges working as a teaching assistant at the school.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, teaching martial arts at a local martial arts club and lots of outdoor activities including skiing.

When our PCC were asked to nominate a Foundation Governor this year, they suggested that my experience, my knowledge of and links with the school and my position within the parish made me a good candidate. I was pleased to accept and hope that I will do a good job and provide an effective link between the Church and the school.

I put myself forward for this role as I feel I have much to offer personally and professionally in supporting the children of Warter School, it is extremely important to me to provide a voice for the families and staff who give such valuable input into the progression of this school as a whole.

I am also delighted to have been given the opportunity to work with this great team of governing body members to maintain the principles, ethics, beliefs and high standards of Warter School.

I am wholeheartedly committed to the success of Warter School and its outcomes, raising aspirations of our young people and supporting all, particularly those who receive SEN provision. I am passionate about the education, wellbeing, nurturing and development of children of all ages and abilities.

Having gained a BSc Hons degree in Public Health Nutrition, I went on to train as a secondary school teacher and I am currently a Food and Nutrition teacher with 10 years of secondary school experience. Over the last 3 years I have developed a wide knowledge of SEN from my own personal experiences and in a professional capacity.
